Design Hét

Design festivals, design weeks and different events related to the frontiers of design – graphics, fashion, visual communication – have mushroomed in the past decades. There is hardly a European city that does not organise such events realising the positive effects of design on economy. An event introducing the design novelties of a certain country while giving a snapshot for the profession and the public about international developments is one of the most effective tools of promoting design at large.

Exhibitions, presentations showcasing acclaimed experts and artists have significant news potential while having a positive effect on cultural tourism, too. The Hungarian Design Week was also conceived along these ideas and was created by orgnaisations of high significance, like Design Terminal Kht. and the Hungarian Design Council. The one-week program was first organised in 2004 as part of the Budapest Autumn Festival, but it has been a separate event since 2006 and been increasingly successful ever since. A bilingual leaflet has been supporting the events, which have been centred around certain focal themes right from the beginning – the complete contents of these leaflets are available on the website. In addition to informing the public about the events, the site has been playing an important role in the information flow between the organisers and the media and generated an increasingly significant media presence and coverage. As a result of all these the success of Design Week has not only been proven by the ever growing professional recognition, but also by the continuously rising visitor numbers.
